Project Manager (COP) | Yaoundé, Cameroon | 2022
Chemonics is seeking a Project Manager (COP) for the Malaria Initiative (PMI) activity of thePresident of USAID in Cameroon. This activity aims to advance the goals of the PMI and the National Malaria Control Program of Cameroon, which are to reduce deaths, reduce illnesses and reduce transmission to accelerate the elimination of malaria in Cameroon. The COP will be responsible for providing overall strategic direction and leadership for the project; manage the development of technical strategies and work plans; monitoring program, financial and administrative performance; oversee the administration of the project’s standard operating and financial procedures; manage short-term and long-term technical assistance; and maintain effective communication with the client, central office, public and private sectors, and other donors and cooperating agencies.
Responsibilities include:
• Provide overall direction, leadership and direction to ensure the effective implementation of the activity
• Maintain strong and positive working relationships with clients and partners, including USAID and local governments
• Develop and implement annual work plans and budgets that reflect the priorities of USAID, the Ministry of Public Health, and other key stakeholders
• Implement strategies that demonstrably improve malaria prevention, detection and treatment and reduce malaria mortality, morbidity and parasitaemia
• Supervise senior management team, technical and administrative staff and outsourced organizations
• Identify problems and risks related to the timely implementation of the project and make necessary adjustments to the program
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders the provision of assistance to build the capacity of national systems
• Ensure compliance with USAID, US Government, and Chemonics policies, as well as local laws, regulations, and procedures
Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in public health, medicine or related field
• At least 10 years of progressive program management experience, preferably as a group leader or similar role
• Experience leading complex international development programs required; experience working with U.S. government and/or USAID implementing partners desired
• Experience managing malaria programs in Cameroon and/or Central Africa desired
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with host country officials, donors and other key stakeholders
• Demonstrated professional supervisory experience, including supervising technical teams and sub-contracting partners
• Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills both oral and written
• Fluent English and French required
Place of assignment:
This is a long term position for the duration of the contract based in Yaoundé, Cameroon with intermittent local and international travel as required.
