The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is a global, feminist, membership, movement-support organisation. We currently have 35 staff members based in 19 different countries. The position and profile:
AWID is looking to hire a committed individual as the Forum Manager that will provide leadership to design, plan, implement and evaluate the AWID International Forum to be held in 2024 pending enabling conditions for a global gathering.
In this role you will provide strategic leadership to the development and manage the implementation of the Forum workplan coordinating closely with the Director of Membership and Constituency Engagement (MCE) and the Co-Executive Directors (Co-EDs) who are leading the overall AWID Forum strategy. You will organize site visits and support the Co-EDs and/or Director MCE to meet with women's rights, feminists, LGBTQI rights and other social justice groups at potential Forum locations to understand context dynamics and expectations of the event, and respond to logistics-related questions and requests. You will facilitate decision making by providing well-researched, objective and balanced descriptions of available alternatives that includes their pros and cons, and implications (financial, political, human resources-related and any other relevant ones), along with recommendations. On site, you will have ultimate responsibility for the smooth operation of all aspects of the Forum: You will hold, develop, and maintain relationships with AWID partners and allies, AWID members and various feminist and economic justice movements. You will manage forum Logistics staff and contractors, providing direction, managing performance and overseeing work planning to ensure effective fulfilment of Forum objectives in alignment with AWID’s values/culture.
As the right candidate, you will be understanding of AWID’s values, and be sensitive to upholding them in the way you take up the responsibilities of the role.
Successful applicants will have significant experience in a similar leadership role, or roles responsible for overseeing, developing and implementing a large and complex event, convening, or conference.
You should have demonstrated capacity to think strategically and analytically, with expertise in complex problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills, displaying good judgement. You should have a strong understanding of international project planning and management. You would be someone who can thrive in a virtual environment working in high-pressure situations and with tight deadlines (and ideally, preventing high-pressure situations and safeguarding realistic guidelines as much as possible). You should show high levels of initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness.
